Interview with Linda Bender

This is Linda’s perspective on her career, leadership growth, and the importance of work-life balance.
Q: Tell me about your career and your role at Yeo & Yeo Technology.
As the office supervisor for YYTECH, I oversee both the administration and operations departments. In this role, every day is different. I work closely with our sales professionals, technicians, and company leadership. I assist with purchasing and many accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliation. Basically, my job is to make sure that our people, and our company, have what they need to be successful.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your career?
Day to day, I enjoy working on the accounting side of YYTECH, working with spreadsheets and reconciling accounts. But what has kept me with Yeo & Yeo is the people and the camaraderie we have. My coworkers are like family. I enjoy working for a company that holds the same values, beliefs, and integrity that I do.
Q: When you began your career, did you ever imagine that you would hold a leadership role?
Not at all. When I started in 2003, I was a receptionist and assisted with accounting. Yeo & Yeo Technology only had 19 people at the time. I’ve enjoyed watching the company grow, and I’ve learned many aspects of the business along the way, including how to develop policies and procedures. This allowed me to gain valuable experience in leadership.
Q: How do you balance your career, personal life, and passions?
Prioritizing family time has helped me balance work and life. After working 15 years full-time, I changed to working four days a week to spend time with one of my grandsons. Now, four of them occupy my time on my day off work. For me, it was knowing that family is a priority and creating boundaries and a schedule that allows me to have the best of both worlds at work and at home.
